History of Charlotte City Club

Honoring Tradition. Shaping What’s Next.

Since its founding, Charlotte City Club has evolved alongside the city it has called home. The Club’s first home was located above Union National Bank at Fourth and Tryon Streets before relocating in 1962 to the Mutual Savings and Loan building at Tryon Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. In the late 1980s, members began shaping a bold vision for the future, leading to the Club’s move in 1990 to the top floors of Interstate Tower in Uptown Charlotte—an important milestone that marked the beginning of a new era.

That spirit of thoughtful evolution has continued ever since. From the addition of the Grill Room and major renovations in 2006, to the creation of the Hornets Nest and Billiards Room in 2014, to the transformative Upper Club enhancements completed in 2020, each investment has strengthened the Club as a place for connection, hospitality, and community.

In April 2026, Charlotte City Club entered another defining chapter with its acquisition by BNG Hospitality—a strategic investment made to secure the Club’s long-term vitality and ensure its place in the Charlotte community for generations to come. Designed to preserve and strengthen the Club’s legacy while positioning it for continued growth, this transition reflects a shared commitment to stewarding Charlotte City Club well into its next 80 years.

Today, Charlotte City Club remains rooted in the vision of its founders while embracing the future with renewed energy—continuing to serve as a distinctive gathering place for business, friendship, dining, and celebration.

Honoring its history while investing in its future, Charlotte City Club remains a place where tradition, community, and opportunity continue to rise together.
